With over a decade of experience – and the last seven dedicated specifically to SAP technologies – Ricardo Ferreira is a full-stack expert, proficient in ABAP and Neptune, among other cutting-edge technologies.

Ricardo brings a wealth of programming experience, seamlessly transitioning between coding, system design, and client interactions. Beyond technical proficiency, Ricardo is committed to honing his interpersonal and soft skills and finds fulfillment in guiding and mentoring fellow developers.

We asked Ricardo a few questions so you can get to know him better.

I have been with S4A since mid-2020, so my responsibilities and assignments have changed throughout the years. Nowadays, as the lead developer, I would say a big part of my role is to facilitate integration between the development team and other areas of the company, as well as with customers, being the first point of contact for functional analysts, product managers, and key users, as well as fellow developers. I still spend a good part of my time coding, which I love, but a typical day would also involve meetings with the internal team and customers, talking to and mentoring other developers, and sometimes HR and business-related activities.

Neptune really empowers developers and expedites front-end development by building directly on top of SAP. It shortens the ramp-up time, enabling back-end developers to deliver high-quality, visually appealing UI5 applications more quickly. The seamless, out-of-the-box integration with SAP back-end via Neptune interfaces saves a great amount of time for developers, and the Neptune code-designer—combining features like drag-and-drop screen building and visual property editing—still leaves plenty of room for pro coding when needed.

Not only does development benefit from the platform: Deploying tiles, tile groups, launchpads, native applications for iOS, Android & Windows, role-based access management, and even offline usage on the native apps are facilitated by Neptune. It’s a game-changer.

Currently, S4A thrives on product development with the Envoy Suite (which includes Envoy Maestro, Envoy Arc, and Envoy Balance, among other products). Back in 2022, when the company was envisioning this suite, our team had the task of laying the foundation for the product development team with a utilities framework. Features such as licensing control, file attachments, product parameters, barcode scanning, and many other key, reusable features were created around this time. These frameworks, although often operating in the background, are a cornerstone in our product development process. Having coded and made them available to our development team from day one, I can leverage them in any S4A product with minimal configuration, which is something I take great pride in.
