SAP Business AI can create meaningful value – but activating the technology is only one part of being ready to use it effectively.
S4A’s SAP AI Readiness Assessment helps you evaluate whether the operational, data, governance and organizational foundations are in place to activate and scale SAP Business AI with confidence.
In just a few minutes, assess twelve critical areas of readiness — from Joule activation and AI Unit visibility to data quality, process consistency, executive ownership and the safety of the interfaces your AI agents will call.
Your results will show where your organization is ready to move forward, where gaps could slow adoption, and where additional work may be needed before investing further in premium AI capabilities.
Organizations can have access to SAP Business AI and still struggle to generate value if the foundations required to support it are incomplete. Before scaling SAP Business AI, technology and business leaders should be able to answer questions like:
Are the foundational Joule capabilities available to your organization activated and in use today?
Do we know what SAP AI Units we have, how they are being consumed and when they expire?
Can we assign AI capabilities to the right users through a repeatable identity and access process?
Have we identified and budgeted for a specific premium AI use case?
Is our underlying business data consistent enough for AI to rely on?
Are our processes standardized enough for AI to support or automate them?
Is there a named executive owner accountable for scaling AI beyond the pilot stage?
Do we know which interfaces an AI agent could call, and whether they’re safe to use?
Is there a central function — an AI governance council, Centre of Excellence, or accountable executive body overseeing how AI is used, monitored and controlled across the enterprise, not just within a single tool or use case?
The SAP AI Readiness Assessment turns these questions into a structured way to identify where your organization is prepared – and where readiness gaps could lead to wasted investment or stalled adoption.
Successful AI adoption depends on your ability to activate the technology, the quality of the data and processes it runs on, and whether the interfaces it calls are safe for an agent to act on.
Can you turn AI on – and keep it running effectively?
The first part of the assessment evaluates the practical foundations required to activate and manage SAP Business AI.
Is foundational SAP AI already activated and available to users?
Do you know what AI capacity you have purchased, how it is being consumed and when it expires?
Can you assign premium AI capabilities to the right users through an established identity and access-management process?
Have you identified a specific AI use case, business KPI and corresponding AI Unit requirement before investing further?
Is there anything trustworthy and repeatable for AI to act on?
Technology activation alone does not make an organization AI-ready. The second part of the assessment looks at the quality and consistency of the business environment surrounding the technology.
Do core business terms and fields mean the same thing across systems, reports and business units?
Is your master and transactional data reliable enough for AI to produce trustworthy answers and recommendations?
Are business processes consistent enough for AI assistants or agents to act reliably across sites and teams?
Is there a named leader accountable for AI adoption, with funding tied to a defined business outcome?
Can an agent safely call what you’ve exposed?
The third part of the assessment looks at whether the interfaces an AI agent would actually use are stable, governed and safe to act on.
Do you know which interfaces an AI agent could call, and whether they’re safe?
Would an agent reach your systems through a permissioned gateway — or straight into the database?
If an interface changes, does an agent silently break?
How much of what an agent would touch is technical debt instead of safe, released functionality?
Organizations often move quickly through the technical steps of activating AI while overlooking the people, data, and process foundations that determine whether it can actually scale.
An organization may have Joule activated, AI Units available, and users provisioned — yet still struggle to generate reliable value if nobody owns AI adoption beyond the pilot, equipment definitions differ across sites, master data is inconsistent, or business processes vary significantly from one location to another. The assessment is designed to surface those differences before you commit additional AI investment.
Assess your SAP AI readiness across twelve critical criteria.
For each question, choose the response that most accurately reflects your organization’s current state – not future plans or intended capabilities.
Each response is scored from 0 to 3:
0 — Not started: No plan or activation is in place
1 — Planned: The capability has been identified or scoped but is not yet live
2 — Partial: The capability is live, but inconsistent, incomplete or not fully governed
3 — Live & Governed: The capability is fully activated, consistently managed and owned.
Your responses will generate an overall AI Readiness Score out of 36, placing your organization into one of three readiness bands: AI-Ready, Activating, or Pre-Ready.
